Manual Handling

Half day course

Manual handling accidents account for more than a third of all reported accidents each year. Amongst other things, this can be as a result of pushing, pulling or lifting heavy objects or machinery.

Due to this, employers are required to undertake a risk assessment and do everything that is reasonably practicable in order to reduce the risks associated with manual handling.

This course gives the basic information all staff need in order to understand their responsibilities in terms of good manual handling.


TIME: Half Day

By the end of this course learners will:

  • Be able to define manual handling and explain the common causes of injury
  • Understand the legal responsibilities and the duties placed on employers and employees
  • Be able to recognize manual handling hazards
  • Understand the types of injury that can be caused by poor manual handling practice
  • Be able to undertake an effective manual handling risk assessment
  • Understand the control measures that can be put in place to reduce the risk of harm
  • Understand and practice the best way to handle loads to maintain a safe working environment


The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English. If you have any concerns about this, please contact us.
